Skopelos is one of the islands of the Northern Sporades group next to Skiathos Island. The island is made up with seductive verdant landscapes, emerald waters in dreamy beaches and majestic monasteries. Indeed it is no coincidence that Skopelos was chosen for the shooting of the Hollywood film “Mama Mia”. Filled with dense forests that cover much of the island, giving the island a cool breeze, Skopelos is considered as the greenest island in the Aegean.
Starting your trip with a rib boat you will visit beaches on the south side of the island. Stafilos, Velanios, Panormos, Milia and many other fabulous beaches seem “drowned” in the green pine forest. On the northern side of Skopelos, coasts are rocky and the slopes create wonderful green-colored beaches. For fishing and diving enthusiasts such beaches are ideal because the sea bottom is rocky with caves that definitely hide lots of treasures.
The island is located at a short distance from Alonissos and Skiathos Islands. Renting a rib boat, will help you organize a trip and make stops in the many islands that surround Skopelos. These are: Dasia, Kasida, Plevro, Stroggylo and many others with pines and green waters. You will feel the magic of the island and the vastness of the sea when diving in its deep waters.
The island is a blessed place that offers all sorts of products such as chestnuts, figs, almonds, lemons and oranges. Do not forget to try wild herbs, kritamo and tzitzirafa together with local cheese. The Skopelos cheese pie is famous for its twisted shape stuffed with local delicious feta cheese. Of course, seafood is the top food locally and particularly octopus dishes.
